Isabel Wilkerson has long been one of America’s leading writers: Pulitzer Prize winner and author of NYT bestseller, The Warm of Other Suns. And her new volume, Caste, shot out of the gate to the top of every major publication’s best book list, declared “An instant American classic and the keynote nonfiction book of the American century.”
On May 3, Wilkerson will join the Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center community to discuss her incisive analysis of America’s unacknowledged caste system - the rigid, inherited hierarchy of social stratification - and its parallels in India and Nazi Germany, the latter mimicking American race laws in its early approaches to the “Jewish Problem.”
Following the event, we invite Temple members to join our clergy for small group discussions about the book’s implications for America’s future and Wilkerson’s views on how we, as a nation, can move past destructive historic separations toward common humanity.
