ABOUT ABOUT

A Journey Across the Jewish Past

Inside the Jewish Theological Seminary Library’s Rare Book Collection

11:00 AM EST

Hidden in the nooks and crannies of libraries and museums across the world are clues to an often-surprising Jewish past: a 15th-century Italian woman’s siddur that includes a special prayer thanking God for “creating her as a woman”; a Haggadah from a Nazi concentration camp; manuscripts from the Court Jews enmeshed in the intrigues of European kings.

The Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center is proud to offer you a unique opportunity to tour the treasures in one of the world’s largest collections of Hebrew books and manuscripts, housed at the Jewish Theological Seminary Library, opening windows into centuries of Jewish life, thought and creativity.

Our guide will be Dr. David Kraemer, Joseph J. and Dora Abbell Librarian and Professor of Talmud and Rabbinics at JTS. Moderated by JTS Chancellor, Dr. Shuly Rubin Schwartz.
