Does the very thought of wandering down Tel Aviv’s Allenby Street and stopping for sabich, shwarma or burekas make your mouth water? Do you long for the aroma of cardamom in fresh-roasted coffee? The visual cacophony of Carmel Market? The exquisite mingling of the crunchy and the soft, the sweet and the sour that is falafel with salad, tahini, hummus and salad?

The next best thing to getting on a plane and eating your way across Israel is to spend some time with Mike Solomonov, the award-winning chef and restaurateur behind Philadelphia’s Zahav, during his free 16-week digital series, “Bringing Israel Home.” Solomonov whets your appetite as he chats with Israeli journalists, chefs, musicians and filmmakers about everything from amba to immigration before the pièce de résistance -- cooking classes live from his own kitchen.

Mike will join us to talk about and show clips from the show, to discuss how food provides a window into Israeli culture and to take you on a tour of his kitchen as he whips up an Israeli delight.

Born in Israel and raised in Pittsburgh, Mike Solomonov has made Israeli cuisine a Philadelphia staple with Zahav, Dizengoff, K’Far, Merkaz and Laser Wolf. He is coauthor of three books and has won five James Beard Foundation awards.

Moderated by Lior Lev Sercarz, chef, spice blender and owner of La Boîte, a biscuits and spice shop in New York City. Lior and La Boîte have been featured in publications including The New York TimesVogueInStyle MagazineEvery Day with Rachel RayFood & Wine Magazine and the SAVEUR 100. He is the author of The Art of BlendingThe Spice Companion, and his most recent book, Mastering Spice, which was named one of the best cookbooks of the year by The New York Times Book Review.
